The first and biggest international organisation of Turkey the “Izmir International Fair” opened its gates to visitors for the 76th time. This year north Cyprus participated in the fair with 46 corporations at a 984 square meters of special state stand.
Being one of the general scoped commercial fairs, the “Izmir International Fair” took place at Izmir Atatürk Park and Fair Site between 31 August and September 9.
At the fair where the TRNC has attended 32nd times this year with 46 institutions and corporations, with the organisation of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, products of 37 firms, members of the chamber, which produce locally, were exhibited and introduced. 5 universities carrying on business in our country executed promotions and student registrations. Koop Diary Products (Koop Süt Ürünleri) firm opened a stand at the fair and offered hellim, and fruit juices for tasting. Additionally, occasionally-our traditional products- peksemet (dried crisp bread), special sweet made with grape molasses, and fresh walnut sweet were offered to visitors.
Alongside the Chamber of Industry and its members, Department of Tourism Promotion and Marketing, Department of Culture, Turkish Cypriot Cooperative of Handicrafts, and Institute of Folk Arts participated in the fair. Folk dance performances were presented at the TRNC stand, alongside local and authentic music concerts. 14 oil paint works of Cypriot artists were exhibited at the Art Gallery within the Fair site.
Alongside introduction of universities, goods as food products, cleaning materials, chemical products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, cement, bag-suitcases, plastic food containers, ready-made beds, aluminium door and window parts, paint and paint chemicals, electricity cables, stones original to Cyprus, parquet and block varieties, garden fences, Teflon pots and pans, toilet papers and tissue papers, automobile filters, water and electricity pipes, citrus, milk and diary products were exhibited and introduced at the fair.
Upon the invitation of Turkey’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, TRNC’s Minister of Economy and Tourism, Erdoğan Şanlıdağ attended the 76th International Izmir fair with a delegation.
Director of the Department of Industry Mehmet Salih Gürtekin, and Director of the Department of Tourism, Promotion and Marketing Hasan Altuner accompanied Minister Erdoğan Şanlıdağ.
Delegation lead by Şanlıdağ visited the TRNC stand following the opening ceremony. Director of the Fair Öcal Erten provided the minister with information on preparations, orders of stands and goods being exhibited.
Touching upon the international feature of the Izmir Fair, “The fair is a very suitable surrounding for the promotion of our country with all its aspects. This year 1091 firms from 59 countries have attended the fair. Here we are introducing our products and services not only to Turkish people but also to the people of the world,” said the Minister Şanlıdağ,
Touching upon the importance of fairs for industry and service sectors of our country, Mr. Şanlıdağ said, “Comparing to past years, this year there is an increase in participations from pour country. However, this is not at the desired level. The state is giving incitements for expanding the local production to foreign markets, and for its promotions. Almost entire of the Izmir Fair is incited. That is why we have to utilise these opportunities very well.”
Director of the Department of Industry-which this year undertook the organisation of the TRNC stand for the 32nd time this year- Mehmet Salih Gürtekin underlined that the work was created through great sacrifices and efforts.
“Health” and “organic goods” were the two major themes of the 76th International Izmir Fair this year. Firms from this sector groups that participated in the fair and introduced goods and technologies, had the chance to lay their problems on the table through panels and seminars.
The Izmir media showed great interest in the TRNC stand
The written and audio-visual media of the Izmir region and Turkey in general showed great interest in the TRNC stand within the 76th Izmir International Fair.
It was stated that this year 1.400.000 people have visited the Izmir International Fair, which is Turkey’s first and biggest international fair. The TRNC stand at the fair, which dragged much attraction, took its share of the attraction with authentic Cypriot music, folk dances and with exhibitions.
TRNC stand was given ample place within the written and audio-visual media of Izmir region. Specially the team of the Ege TV visited the TRNC stand and prepared programmes on goods being exhibited and on promotions.
Director of the Department of Tourism Promotion and Marketing Hasan Artuner made a statement to Ege (Aegean) TV.
TV programme for the TRNC
The biggest TV channel of the Aegean region the Ege TV devoted its “Vision” programme on Wednesday, September 5, to the TRNC and introduction of its stand at the fair.
Also broadcasting through satellite, the channel hosted Director of the Fair Öcal Erten and Press Advisor of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry and responsible person of the Chamber’s stand Hüseyin Ezgin.
Alongside displaying images from the TRNC stand during the 45-minutes long live broadcast, interviews were made on production of the TRNC, its economy and about the fair.
During the programme, which was realised at the studio of the Ege TV, products produced in the TRNC, structure of the industry, sectors and the exhibition at the fair were discussed.
I think the fair was advantageous for promoting the country and products. Especially exhibition of the members of our chamber, which renewed themselves and increased the variations of their products, dragged attraction. Products dragging attraction foremost were alcoholic beverages, diary products and fruit juices, chemicals fro cleaning purposes, aluminium window shutters and systems, vehicle filters, honey-jam, and construction materials.
