Chamber’s Secretary general Mustafa Gündüz have participated in two-day workshop held between 10 and 11 December which was organised by the Ministry for labour and the EU Coordination Centre financed and called by the EU Commission, on behalf of the Chamber and as a Representative of Employers.
The workshop on first day was done with Paul Weber, Luxemburg Director of Labour and at the same time manager of the related unit of the EU Commission. Economy of Luxemburg was discussed during the workshop.
Second day of the workshop was held at the Directorate General of Labour, Social Security and Equal Rights, based in Luxemburg, on Occupational Safety and Health. The bill prepared in Cyprus was discussed during this workshop.
The EU Commission has stressed that conformity was sought to all points of Commission’s Instructions and Regulations for an EU compatible law, and if some sections (which do not suit to public administration or social parts) were taken out of a law, these laws were not accepted as EU compatible laws.
The EU Commission has stressed that they were ready to give every support for making North Cyprus’s laws EU compatible.
The view envisaging that while adopting laws to EU, small and middle scaled enterprises could be negatively affected and might need support for adaptation was agreed on and it was stated that TAIEX and EU Office in North Cyprus could work for supporting small and middle scaled enterprises.
During the meeting, Mustafa Gündüz said that support alone could not be enough for small and middle scaled enterprises adding that ensuring direct trade for expanding the markets of the small and middle scaled enterprises was needed. Authorities said that direct trade was the issue of the Council and it was political and that the Commission have nothing to do on the issue.
