Musa Sönmezler, President of Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry
is attending 4th Annual meeting of
Global Compact Network Form on 26th
- 27th September in Barcelona.
Chamber of Industry, Chamber of Commerce
and 16 firms are the members of Global
Compact which was established by Kofi
Annan the General Secretary of EU.
Nearly a year ago ‘Global Compact
Network’ project was offered by UNDP
as a bi-communal project and it was
for the membership of Cypriot firms.
Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry
was selected in the North and Cyprus
Employers Union was selected in the
South by UNDP for the coordination
of the project. Chamber of Industry
cooperated with UNDP and started to
find out the firms in TRNC.
Thus, South Cyprus Employers Union
came up with the usual hypothesis
and said ‘firms from North Cyprus
can not attend Global Compact, because
they can’t apply the conditions of
the ‘General Secretary of EU’ and
they resigned from the project. However,
Chamber of Industry and UNDP decided
to continue the project only in North
Cyprus by involving Chamber of Commerce
into the project and created a high
participation. Now, Global Compact
has no member from South Cyprus. Members
of North are creating the network
of North Cyprus.
Musa Sönmezler, President of the Cyprus
Turkish Chamber of Industry and Dr.Ahmet
Gürtuna, Board member or Cyprus Turkish
Chamber of Commerce are representing
North Cyprus at the meeting in Barcelona.
They are leaving the Island on Sunday,
24th September.
